Who We Are
At Salus, everyday we interact with sailors, paddlers, kayakers and water enthusiasts of all ages. Relationships like these allows us to appreciate what is important to you. Inspired by these passionate users, we began Salus because we saw a desire for Personal Flotation Devices that fit your individual needs. Our patented manufacturing process eliminates the hard square edges found in traditional PFD construction, making our vests soft, pliable and comfortable for your every movement. Comfort, Style, Function, and Attention-to-detail are all apart of what makes our vests unique!

Every Salus PFD is manufactured right in Waterloo, Ontario. Using the same attention to detail and quality that earned Salus its reputation as an industry leader, each PFD is cut, assembled and sewn by Canadians who take exceptional pride in their work. Canadian manufacturing comes with many benefits. Quality control is immediate: from materials to workmanship, addressing potential problems occurs within minutes, not days. Quality control, environmental responsibility, creating jobs for Canadians: all are reasons to be proud to be a Canadian manufacturer. For Salus, the most important reason to manufacture in Canada remains the people. From worker to customer, from paddling enthusiast to champion sailor, people are the inspiration for Salus’ designs, innovation, and commitment to staying true to their Canadian roots.
When producing PFD’s that are made to be used in nature, it is important that the manufacturing of that product is as environmentally friendly as possible. Salus has taken this to heart, and implemented a vast array of waste and energy reduction measures as a result. A new pilot project has scrap foam being used in the production of dog beds made right in our factory, eliminating foam waste and emissions from transport. Salus deals with schools across Ontario to use production waste in design projects, and our packaging is as minimal as possible, further reducing waste. On top of this, Salus’ commitment to reducing energy usage has led to the instillation of solar panels, providing enough electricity to power our entire manufacturing process year long. Think globally, act locally. Salus takes that phrase to heart.
Made in Canada, environmentally conscious, and inspired by the people that use them.
Product Testing
Our team takes great care to ensure our vests meet strict quality control and safety approval standards!
Production lot records are kept for every vest and quality testing is done regularly. In addition, ULC (Underwriters Laboratories of Canada) conducts surprise inspections at least 4 times a year to review our quality records and standards. ULC in addition, confiscates vests to take back to their testing labs to ensure that the vests meet the strength of assembly, measurement and buoyancy tests. Every component of the vest has to comply with CGSB (Canadian General Standards Board) standards. The foam, fabric, webbing, buckles, zippers and thread are all ULC approved components.
